BMAP or Back to the Drawing Board?

7 October 2014

BMAP, the Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan was published by Mark H Durkin in September 2014. With the Plan said to affect 40% of the Northern Ireland population its impact and importance cannot be understated.

14 years in the making it identifies zones for retail, residential and commercial development. The plan covers not just Belfast but outlying areas such as Carrickfergus, Lisburn, Newtownabbey and North Down and its publication was intended to create certainty for investors, for communities, for social housing providers and ordinary housing providers.

Now that certainty has been tempered with the decision to publish BMAP being subject to possible judicial review. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-29483333
